About

Options for Oakton was formed in 1998 by local residents seeking to modify and mitigate a development proposal that would have brought significant density to the historic center of Oakton.  At that time, the group was one of the early voices in Fairfax County advocating a mixed-use and preservation-minded approach and was instrumental in winning concessions ("proffers") from the developer that led directly to the building of the Oakton Library on the site, which has since become a hallmark of our community.

Efforts by Options for Oakton also led to the creation of Oakton Community Park and the relocation of the old Oakton schoolhouse to that site.

Now, Options for Oakton seeks to voice concerns about proposed development of the AT&T site by a developer and property owner with no community ties to Oakton.

But the AT&T site can't be redeveloped without County approval.

We don’t have to let outside parties define our community.  We live and work here, our children live, play and go to school here.  We know the character of our community and our voices can lead to better options for Oakton.
